: : about me

I am research fellow at the ICT&S Center, University of Salzburg. I am teaching at the department of communication studies since the winter term 2007 (see teaching).

I have studied communication science at the University of Salzburg, where I received a BA in 2004 and an MA in 2006 (with a major in ICTs-and-Society research). Besides studying in Salzburg, I’ve attended several international courses in Switzerland (2005), the United States (2006), and Estonia (2008). Throughout the summer of 2009 I was visiting scientist at the iSchool, University of Washington – a very beautiful and inspiring campus in Seattle.

Since 2004 I support the research activities in the field of Internet and Society at the ICT&S Center, University of Salzburg. My research topics revolve around free, and open source software (F/OSS), social software, science-technology-studies, and transdisciplinarity. I am also interested in grassroots politics/activism and how technologies can be used to support political participation. I have written several articles (see publications) and gave presentations at conferences.

I am currently co-editing a special issue on ICTs-and-Society: A new Transdiscipline? which will appear in TripleC and I am in the preperation team of the 3rd annual meeting of the ICTs-and-Society Network, which will take place from June 29 – July 2, 2010 at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) at the Open University Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain.
